Our school recognises that children today are growing up in an increasingly online world and that it's important that we do more to support and guide them to navigate this digital landscape.
Successfully developing healthy and responsible digital citizens requires a holistic approach, and that's why our school's cyber safety ecosystem allows us to work collaboratively with you to support your children's digital development and provide the advice and support you need.

CELLPHONES
All state schools and kura are required by the Ministry of Education to have student cellphone rules in use no later than 29 April 2025.
At Ardmore School we already have processes regarding cellphones in place to ensure the Health and Safety of our students.
Our Digital Technology and Online Safety policy states that at Ardmore School, we aim to prevent digital incidents by:
recognising prevention is better than response
balancing promotional (e.g. resources and interventions) and protective (e.g. reducing risk) strategies
In line with this policy:
Digital technology devices may include computers, tablets, storage devices, cameras, phones, handheld PCs and consoles, smartwatches, video/audio devices, e-readers, and other similar devices.
In an effort to reduce any Health and Safety risks upon our ākonga, smartwatches with communication, photo and video capabilities fall under this new regulation.
Our approach, as with our previous procedure, is “away for the day”, meaning the device should be turned off, and handed in to the teacher to be locked away during the school day.
We strongly recommend students do not bring these devices to school with them. If a student does bring their cellphone for emergency contact or health reasons, these must be handed to the teacher to be locked. We understand that some parents like their children to have a phone to communicate with them after school, cellphones will be available for students after school and must be used off school grounds. If a parent or caregiver needs to contact their child urgently during the day, they should call the front office.
If staff see a student using a personal digital device inappropriately or without permission during the school day, we will confiscate it. After the student locks the device, we place it in the office to be collected by a parent or guardian.
